Wienerwald Atlas

Book

This book represents the culmination of my Bachelor's project, marking my final endeavor before graduation. Given complete freedom to choose our topic and approach, I decided to focus on the Wienerwald, the forest area just outside Vienna.

Content
My book, "Wienerwald Atlas," provides an extensive exploration of this forest region. It encompasses a variety of aspects including the history of the Wienerwald, its diverse fauna and flora, property information, and details about the UNESCO-Biosphärenpark.

Implementation
The project comprises a comprehensive textual component interwoven with cross-references, complemented by significant data visualizations and cartography. Each chapter is introduced with a separator page featuring photos that I personally took, adding a unique and authentic visual element to the book.

Craftsmanship
A critical aspect of my project is the book's construction. I chose to use 90g recycled paper from Vivus for the inner pages, promoting sustainability. The jacket is crafted from handmade paper, which I created using rainwater and herbs sourced from the Wienerwald region. This handmade paper adds a tactile and organic quality to the book. Additionally, I employed a coptic binding technique, which I executed myself, ensuring the book is not only informative but also a testament to artisanal bookmaking techniques.

Research | Data visualization | Cartography | Photography | Sustainable design

"Wienerwald Atlas" is a blend of scholarly research, visual artistry, and meticulous craftsmanship, reflecting my dedication to creating a meaningful and aesthetically pleasing final project.
