Objective
This project, which was created for the university course "Publikationsdesign", aims to provide an engaging and exploratory experience focusing on the conceptualisation, design, and implementation of extensive and sophisticated publications. It emphasizes the confident and proficient handling of graphic and typographic aspects of publication design. Additionally, it integrates learned practical and cognitive skills into the production and creation of a comprehensive work.
Content
The book "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus" by Mary Shelley serves as the starting point and inspiration for this project. From this I create free interpretations and experimental approaches around the overarching theme of "Humanity and Research."
Implementation
My project involved a comparative analysis of Mary Shelley's original English text and three different German translations of "Frankenstein" from different decades. For the cover design, each book was used and sewn together to reflect the fragmented mentality of Frankenstein's character. Inside, selected chapters were chosen and compared to highlight differences and nuances in translation.
